Gastritis is a term that generally refers to the swelling, irritation, or erosion of the lining of the stomach. Gastritis, also called inflammation of the stomach, can raise the chance of peptic sores, stomach bleeding, or cancer of the stomach. The two main forms that stomach inflammation manifests in are erosive gastritis and nonerosive gastritis. Nonerosive gastritis begins to alter the lining of the stomach, while erosive gastritis is more severe and has completely worn away the stomach's lining.

Gastritis might arise abruptly (acute gastritis) or happen little by little over a period of time (chronic gastritis). In many situations, gastritis does not lead to concerning difficulties and can be resolved quickly with treatment. If you need treatment for gastritis in Dallas, TX, our experts can help. To obtain help for this condition, connect with a GI doctor at Digestive Health Associates of Texas to set up a consultation now.

Gastritis usually arises if erosion occurs to the gastric mucosal barrier that shields your stomach. The pain from this effect usually stems from the digestive juices that get released to digest food and cause inflammation of the lining of the stomach. The problem may be more severe for individuals who suffer from diseases such as liver conditions, kidney problems, and respiratory conditions. Normally, gastritis or chronic stomach inflammation is often be caused by:

  • Eating acidic foods like tomatoes and some fruits
  • Vomiting
  • Eating foods high in sodium
  • Chronic/extreme stress
  • Alcohol abuse
  • Eating high-fat or deep fried foods
  • Eating foods that are spicy
  • Overuse of aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs, like Ibuprofen
  • Infections – like H. pylori
  • Consuming too many caffeinated beverages
  • Bile backing up from the gallbladder or liver

Using certain medications might also cause the progression of gastritis. These drugs are:

Great care from prep to procedure! Dr. Blank and the nursing staff at Texas Health Surgery center took amazing care of me. They were kind, caring, professional, and kept me informed every step of the way. I highly recommend Dr. Blank and DHAT of Rockwall for all of your gastrointestinal needs.

Went to another doctor in his same group DHAT, I think it is. That doctor dismissed my symptoms as anxiety. Originally asked for endoscopy but insurance denied it and that other doc refused the peer to peer and settled for the upper GI (barium swallow). Showed nothing! Pain when eating got worse and I switched to Dr. Antin. He and his team went to bat for me and got the endoscopy where they found my chronic gastritis and lower third esophagus lesions. Thanks Dr. Antin!!!

Dr. Abraham is a doctor above the rest! This is one doctor I cannot say enough about! She's well educated, thorough, spends time getting to know you and wants to help solve your G.I. issues. I've been going to her for years and will continue to do so until she retires!
